Risso’s Dolphin | Grampus griseus
The Risso’s dolphin (Grampus griseus), also known as the grampus, is a cetacean belonging to the Delphinidae family. It is frequently found in tropical and warm temperate seas around the world and is common in the Mediterranean Sea. This cetacean can reach a length of 4 m and its body is usually covered with numerous and extensive light-colored scratches. It is a very agile cetacean, yet it swims with slow, relaxed movements. It usually lives in small groups of 10-30 individuals, although solitary individuals or groups of up to 1,000 grampus have been observed. Occasionally, this species associates with other cetaceans, especially pilot whales.
